Within recent years, there has been an alarming increase of women wanting and obtaining breast surgery. Doctors are beginning to recommend that women who have received breast surgery and have had implants installed undergo a mammogram. Even though the implants are possible to rupture during the exam, doctors are still insistent that the patient complete the procedure.
If an individual is currently considering the possibility of getting breast surgery, they should be alert to the possibility that implants can interfere with the mammogram procedure. While a machine is searching for cancerous growths within the breasts, implants will be detected and displayed as a white mass. The problem with this is that the white mass could hide tumors that are in the area. However, implants are able to cause other difficulties, as well. Considering the nature of the implants, other results could be detected and be found to be unreliable, therefore needing more testing.
Fortunately, mammograms have been designed and are developed in such a way so that as much of the bust as possible can be searched and women with larger breasts do not necessarily need to worry about missed areas. The downside, though, is that women could be exposed to unhealthy amounts of radiation.
One of the most disturbing aspects of breast enlargement is that a large amount of women have had cancerous growths that were missed during their mammograms. Research reports have said that as much as 55 percent of women with breast implants were left with unnoticed tumors. In most of these cases, specialist mammograms were used. Although 30 percent of women without breast implants had unnoticed tumors, the cancerous material was spotted in later mammograms.
Through all this, an individual must ultimately ask themselves why they want the procedure. Most times, if opinions of others fueled a persons' need for different breasts, there can be strong insecurities and doubts in the future. If that is the case, a woman could feel more satisfied with leaving her breasts the way they were naturally. It is often recommended that a woman gather as much self confidence as possible before these decisions.
Breasts implants and other types of breast surgery can be potentially life threatening and could cause illnesses not before present in the body. A patient should strongly consider the risks of such surgeries. Doctors, friends or other close individuals to the patient should advise that they perform extensive research and seek professional medical advice before undergoing the breast enhancement procedure.
